How Many Cards In Exploding Kittens

How Many Cards In Exploding Kittens?

Exploding Kittens is the well known kickstarter hit, record breaking card game designed by Matthew Inman and Elan Lee. The aim of the game is to play strategically to blow up your opponents whilst avoiding being blown up yourself but how many cards in exploding kittens? This article is going to explain just that.

How Many Cards In Exploding Kittens?

The original version of exploding kittens consists of a total 56 cards. These are broken down as follows:

  • 4 Exploding Kitten Cards
  • 6 Defuse Cards
  • 4 Skip Cards
  • 5 Nope Cards
  • 5 See The Future Cards
  • 4 Attack Cards
  • 4 Shuffle Cards
  • 4 Favor Cards
  • 4 Rainbow-Ralphing Cat Cards
  • 4 Beard Cat Cards
  • 4 Tacocat Cards
  • 4 Hairy Potato Cat Cards
  • 4 Cattermelon Cards

So now we know the cards that the deck consists of. Let’s take a look at what the cards actually do.

Exploding Kitten – If an exploding kitten is drawn from the deck then that player will explode and be out of the game.

Defuse – A defuse card if the only card in the deck that is able to diminish an exploding kitten. So for example if a player draws an exploding kitten from the deck they can use a defuse card and stay in the game. The exploding kitten is then placed back in the deck where ever that player chooses.

Skip – A skip card is pretty self explanatory. Playing a skip card let’s a player skip their turn without drawing a card from the deck. Play then continues from the next player.

Nope – A nope card can be used at any time during the game, whether it is a players turn or not. It can be used to cancel a players action, any cards underneath the nope are now useless. A nope card cannot be used on an exploding kitten or a defuse card. A nope card can also be played on another nope card which creates a ‘Yup’.

See The Future – The see the future card allows a player to secretly view the top 3 cards in the deck and put them back in the same order. The cards must not be shown to the other players.

Attack – If a player plays an attack card they do not have to draw a card, instead this forces the next player to draw two cards. If the victim of the attack card plays another attack card then the play then shifts to the next player and they now have to draw 4 cards and so on.

Shuffle – A shuffle card is another self explanatory card, it allows a player to shuffle the draw deck. This card can be handy if a player knows an exploding kitten is coming.

Favor – The Favor card let’s a player force any other player to give them a card from their hand. The player handing over the card chooses which card they want to give up.

Cat Cards – There are 5 different types of cat cards, Rainbow-Ralphing Cat, Beard Cat, Tacocat, Hairy Potato Cat and Cattermelon. These cards are powerless on their own however if a player plays two matching cat cards this allows them to steal a random card from any player. If a player plays 3 matching cat cards, this gives them the power to name a player and choose a card, if that player has the card requested in their hand they must hand it over. If they don’t have the card in their hand then the other player gets nothing. If a player is lucky enough to collect all 5 different cat cards they can be played to allow a player to go through the discard pile and take any card they choose.

What Are the Cards In Imploding Kittens?

Imploding Kittens is the first expansion pack for exploding kittens, so what are the cards in the exploding kittens expansion?

Imploding Kittens contains 20 new cards to add to your original deck. These new cards are:

  • 1 Imploding Kitten Card
  • 4 Draw From The Bottom Cards
  • 4 Reverse Cards
  • 3 Targeted Attack Cards
  • 4 Alter the Future Cards
  • 4 Ferral Cat Cards

So what do these new cards do?

Imploding Kitten – The imploding Kitten is a little bit different from the original exploding kitten. The first time an imploding kitten is drawn the player does not explode and die, nor has to use a defuse card. Instead this card is placed back in the deck, but this time it is placed back in the deck face up so players can see the card coming. If a player has no choice but to draw the imploding kitten card when it is face up then they will automatically explode and are out of the game. The face up imploding kitten cannot be defused.

Draw From The Bottom – The draw from the bottom card is self explanatory. If a player plays this card they draw a card from the bottom of the deck instead of the top. These are great to avoid an imploding kitten on top of the deck.

Reverse – A reverse card allows a player to reverse the order of play and ends their turn without having to draw a card.

Targeted Attack – If a player plays a targeted attack card they do not have to draw a card, instead they choose any player to target and force them to draw two cards. The play then continues from the targeted player. If the victim of the targeted attack card plays another targeted attack card then the play then shifts to the next player and they now have to draw 4 cards and so on.

Alter The Future – The alter the future card allows a player to secretly view the top 3 cards in the deck, rearrange them into any order and return them to the deck.

Ferral Cat – A Ferral cat can be used as any cat card. This helps complete special combos quicker.

What Cards Does Streaking Kittens Have?

Streaking Kittens is the second expansion pack for exploding kittens, so what are the cards in the exploding kittens expansion?

Streaking Kittens contains 15 new cards to add to your original deck. These new cards are:

  • 1 Streaking Kitten Card
  • 1 Exploding Kitten Card
  • 1 See the Future Card
  • 1 Alter the Future Card
  • 1 Super Skip Card
  • 3 Swap Top And Bottom Cards
  • 1 Garbage Collection Card
  • 1 Catomic Bomb Card
  • 3 Mark Cards
  • 2 Curse Of The Cat Butt Cards

So now we know the cards that the deck consists of. Let’s take a look at what the cards actually do.

Streaking Kitten – If a player has a streaking kitten card in their hand it allows the player to secretly hold an exploding kitten in their hand without exploding. If the streaking kitten leaves the players hand for any reason, for example, it is stolen by another player, then the exploding kitten in their hand will explode. It must be defused or the player is out of the game.

Exploding Kitten – This pack includes an extra exploding kitten to accommodate the streaking kitten or to allow for more players to play the game.

See The Future – The see the future card allows a player to secretly view the top 5 cards in the deck and put them back in the same order. The cards must not be shown to the other players. This card allows a player to view 2 more cards than the see the future cards in the original deck which only let a player secretly view the top 3 cards.

Alter the Future –  The alter the future card allows a player to secretly view the top 5 cards in the deck, rearrange them into any order and return them to the deck. This card allows a player to view and rearrange 2 more cards than the alter the future cards in the imploding kittens expansion which only let a player view and rearrange 3 cards.

Super Skip – A Super Skip ends a players turn without having to draw a card. Unlike the skip card from the original deck a super skip will end all turns and not just one which can help when being attacked.

Swap Top And Bottom – This allows a player to swap the top and bottom cards of the deck. The player cannot look at the cards being swapped.

Garbage Collection – If a garbage collection card is played, every player (including the player who played the card) must choose a card from their hand and secretly place it back into the draw pile. The draw pile must then be shuffled.

Catomic Bomb – If a Catomic bomb card is played then all exploding kittens are removed from the deck. The deck is then shuffled and the exploding kittens are returned to the top of the deck face down.

Mark – A mark card allows a player to choose another player and randomly pick one of their cards to mark. The marked card must be turned around so that it is facing the other players. This card must stay marked until it is played or stolen.

Curse Of The Cat Butt – If a curse of the cat butt card is played the player must choose a player to target and make them blind. The blind player must put all of their cards face down and shuffle them. The blind player is not allowed to look at any of their cards and must stay blind until they draw a card from the deck without exploding.

How Many Cards Does Barking Kittens Have?

Barking Kittens is the third expansion pack for exploding kittens, so what are the cards in the exploding kittens expansion?

Barking Kittens contains 20 new cards to add to your original deck. These new cards are:

  • 2 Barking Kitten Cards
  • 2 Alter The Future Now Cards
  • 2 Bury Cards
  • 4 Personal Attack Cards
  • 1 Super Skip Card
  • 2 Potluck Cards
  • 1 Tower Of Power Card
  • 4 I’ll Take That Cards
  • 2 Share The Future Cards

So now we know the cards that the deck consists of. Let’s take a look at what the cards actually do.

Barking Kitten – To play the barking kitten the player places this face up in front of them and asks for the other barking kitten. If another player has it, they become the target and must play a defuse card or they explode. If no other player has the other barking kitten then the barking kitten is left face up in front of the player. When someone else plays the other barking kitten the player with the barking kitten in front of them becomes the target. If 1 player receives both barking kittens then both should be played at the same time and any other player can be chosen as a target.

Alter The Future Now – An alter the future now card allows a player to secretly view the top 3 cards in the deck, rearrange them into any order and return them to the deck. The difference between this card and the original alter the future card is that it can be played anytime, even if it’s another players turn.

Bury – If a bury card is played then the player ends their turn by drawing a card from the deck, viewing it, then secretly placing it back in the deck in any place they want.

Personal Attack – This card is played on yourself and allows you to take 3 turns in a row.

Super Skip – A Super Skip ends a players turn without having to draw a card. Unlike the skip card from the original deck a super skip will end all turns and not just one which can help when being attacked.

Potluck – Starting with the player who plays this card, each player must place a card of their choice on top of the draw deck face down.

Tower Of Power – When a player plays this card, they must wear the tower of power crown, take the stash cards and without looking at them place them on top of their head. The tower of power protects that player from any form of stealing. If any player wishes to steal a card from the player wearing the crown they must blindly choose a card from the crown.

I’ll Take That – This card is placed in front of another player. When it is their turn they must draw a card, view it and hand the card to you.

Share The Future – This card allows a player to secretly view the top 3 cards in the deck, rearrange them into any order and show them to the next player before returning them to the deck.
